Common name: powdery sulfur bolete or Ravenel’s bolete

Description: Cap bright yellow when young, aging to orange or reddish, dry, smooth to cracked, up to 10 cm wide. Distinct powdery yellow partial veil covering the pores when young, and bits of veil remnants present along margins when older. Pores yellow to brownish, staining green-blue when pressed, pore tubes up to 1 cm long. Stipe bright yellow, up to 15 cm long, sometimes with flimsy ring present, basal mycelium yellow or white. Flesh bruises green-blue when pressed or cut. Mycorrhizal usually with conifers (usually pines) but also with some hardwoods, throughout summer and fall in North America but more common in the South/Southeast.
